Inflation in the eurozone slowed its lowest level in nearly three years in September, according to figures released by Eurostat on Wednesday.

The annual rate of consumer price inflation fell to 0.8% last month from 1% in August, coming in below the initial estimate of 0.9% and marking the slowest annual rise since November 2016.

Meanwhile, the core rate of inflation - which strips out energy, food, tobacco and alcohol - edged up to 1% from a revised 0.9% the month before.

Other data released by Eurostat showed that the eurozone's seasonally-adjusted trade surplus increased to €20.3bn in August from a revised €17.5bn in July, coming in above consensus expectations of €18.0bn.
